Project STAR, a five-year social and economic development initiative developed by the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica in partnership with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is encouraging everyone to contribute to its social programmes aimed at bringing about economic, social or environmental change in targeted communities in Jamaica.
Listed on the Jamaica Social Stock Exchange (JSSE) as non-tradable social stock, which opened on June 22 and closes on August 18, aims to bring about community-led social and economic transformation, especially in under-resourced areas of Jamaica.
Project STAR expects to raise $100 million with the ability to accept applications greater than that amount.
Persons can contribute to Project STAR by contacting their broker or visiting the JSSE’s website or the Project STAR’s website and donate to the bank account indicated there. A visit to participating commercial banks and the First Heritage Cooperative (FHC) Credit Union will reveal a QR code which can be scanned for access to the account information for the donations to be made.
According to Project STAR’s prospectus, any person or company can contribute. Participation can come through direct donations through the JSSE’s website or through the purchase of social stock facilitated by a broker or any of the selling agent’s platforms. The funds acquired will be used to: support the creation of safer communities with activities such as peace-building programmes, sports, parenting and safe spaces; improve education through collaboration to deliver after school activities and life skills training.
