As we enter the New Year, the Violence Prevention Alliance (VPA) reflects with gratitude on a year of impactful service and partnership. In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, VPA mobilised relief efforts and emotional support in Parotee, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland and surrounding communities, providing timely support to families whose livelihoods and sense of security were severely affected. These interventions underscored our commitment to addressing vulnerability as a critical part of violence prevention.

Throughout the year, our prevention initiatives continued to create positive change. The Drumming for Peace Initiative used culture and creativity to foster emotional expression and conflict resolution among children, while the Big Man Ting Project advanced mentorship and positive masculinity among young men. We also celebrate the growing success of the Peace Gardens in schools, which have nurtured environmental stewardship, teamwork and peaceful values among students across participating institutions.

We are encouraged by the continued reduction in crime recorded by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, affirming that coordinated efforts between communities, civil society and law enforcement can yield meaningful results.

Looking ahead, VPA is preparing to continue our support to communities affected by Hurricane Melissa in Clarendon and St. Ann, sustain our Drumming for Peace and Trees for Peace programmes in schools, which are all aimed at deepening engagement and expanding our peacebuilding footprint. We will be conducting workshops under the Big Man Ting campaign to promote positive masculinity. As we begin this New Year, we remain steadfast in our mission to promote peace, resilience and unity, together building safer and stronger communities for all.
