International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW) was recognised on November 25 worldwide to bring awareness to the issues surrounding women and gender-based violence.
This year’s calendar day was celebrated under the theme ‘UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls.’
Locally, our members initiated several activities. The Nurses Association of Jamaica held their annual Orange Day Walk, which is part of the global effort to end violence against women and children. They led a march at Neville Antonio Park in Pot Antonio, Portland in observance of the global call.
The Women Media Watch also participated in marches and demonstrations in Papine Square in St Andrew and collaborated with the Jamaica AIDS Support for Life in their march in Kingston on the eve of IDEVAW.
